Painted Palms‘ Nothing Lasts Long EP and their track “Spinning Signs” were among my favorites of last year. This year sees the release of their wonderful debut album, Forever, via Polyvinyl Records. The band was cool enough to put the whole thing up for stream/download over on their bandcamp.
A few things learned in 2013: for one, your favorite song of the year can come at you out of nowhere, in the form of relatively unknown London singer Laurel – who in the future, will undoubtably draw comparisons to Lana Del Rey (which is never a bad thing in my book). And two, the artists asked to make a song for Grand Theft Auto don’t fuck around and hand over throwaway tracks. I’ve listened to the four songs from the official GTAV soundtrack that show up on this list many times over; which gives you some insight on how I’ve spent a lot of my time in the latter half of the year (I love you GTA).
It should go without saying that I like all the songs on the albums + EPs featured in the other lists, so to avoid too much redundancy, this list will only include songs from albums that didn’t quite make the cut or songs that weren’t part of a whole.
